MUSACK was founded by writer-producer Donick Cary with a simple vision, raise some dough to fund musical programs for his hometown high school on Nantucket Island. Donick organized a series of music festivals, first on Nantucket and then in LA, to pay for guitars and lessons at the high school. People really dug the festivals and soon enough other groups on ACK began asking for guitars and music programming. New programs were added – off-island field trips, cultural exchanges to explore other types of music (in Ireland!), and even a scholarship fund for talented students wanting to pursue a degree in music-related studies. Most recently, MUSACK has announced a Youth Podcast Project and Rap and Production Lab at the Nantucket Community Music Center.
MUSACK’s mission is to provide a space where kids can tell their stories through music and feel empowered. Our vision is to create a generation of creative and entrepreneurial geniuses who will go on to found the next Pandora, Netflix, or Apple…Or maybe become the modern day Jimi Hendrix.
